Welcoming and Introductory Session for February 2016 new students.

SIDMA College Sarawak, UNITAR International University Sarawak Regional Centre held a three days “Welcoming and Introductory Programme” for February 2016 new students joining UNITAR International University and SIDMA College Sarawak at SIDMA Hall 1.

The programmed, which was attended by about 120 new students, was to provide an opportunity for the new students to meet Managers, Heads of Departments, lecturers and staff of the college, as well as to get to know the campus better. It was also meant to get them to detect and sense some of the excitement, opportunities and rigor of the college.

Mr. Haji Marzuki Bin Haji Umi (Chairman, SIDMA College Sarawak), Puan Hanizah Bin Mohidin (Chief Finance Officer SIDMA College Sarawak), Puan Dayang Hajah Sofia Bin Abang Haji Bohan (Chief Executive SIDMA College Sarawak), Managers and Heads of Departments who were very excited to meet these new students, congratulated them for selecting SIDMA College Sarawak and UNITAR Sarawak Regional Center to pursue their academic aspirations. These new students, who came from near and far especially from Kapit, Miri, Bintulu and Sri Aman, were warmly welcomed; thus creating a warm and welcoming environment to enable the students to develop a sense of belonging and a feeling of being a member of the SIDMA College Sarawak family and community.

SIDMA College Sarawak has been appointed as UNITAR International University Regional Centre since 2002, and has since been working very closely with UNITAR International University Main Campus, Petaling Jaya, which prides itself as an outstanding provider of various affordable and accredited academic programs at Foundation, Diploma, Bachelor, and Masters and Doctorate levels; meeting the needs of its varied and talented students in diverse discipline of studies including Business Administration, Management, Early Childhood Education, Tourism & Hospitality and more; through its conventional and distance learning modes; and has been producing marketable and promising graduates; as it views its responsibility of shaping the minds of the young, the intellectual leaders of tomorrow, very seriously.

In his welcoming speech, Mr. Haji Marzuki advised all students to seize the opportunities of the conducive study environment provided by the college to pursue their academic excellence. He reminded them that there is no end to excel in their studies, and he sincerely hoped that they can excel in their studies and in their future career.

The students were also being advised to manage their money, as well as the basic facilities and assistance provided by the college, or by other relevant agencies such as the PTPN study loan, scholarships, and other assistance available to enable them to achieve their future goal in life in peace and quiet. He reminded that if they failed to manage their financial status wisely, it can interfere with their concentration and thus have an impact on their study.

During the three days programme, the new students also met the Managers and Heads of Departments (Admission and Student Record, Finance, Academic, Resource Centre, and Students Affairs), and their respective team members; who briefed on them on their related roles, responsibilities and expectations. Students were also encouraged to contact the relevant personnel should they encounter any problems regarding either their studies or their welfare during their stay in the college.

On the third day of the programme, Student Affairs Department (STAD) and the Students’ Representative Counsel conducted orientation programme as well as team building activities for these new students. The students were also being introduced to the basic campus facilities available such as the lecture and tutorial rooms, resource center, computer laboratory, Surau, gymnasium and more.
